Uro-Oncology

Uro-oncology deals with cancers of the urinary tract and male reproductive organs, including the prostate, bladder, kidney, and testis. In India, prostate cancer is now among the top three most common cancers in men, with steadily rising incidence, particularly after the age of 50. Bladder cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed urological cancers in males, while kidney cancer cases are also increasing due to lifestyle factors and improved detection.

Overall, India reports nearly 14–15 lakh new cancer cases annually, and urological cancers form a significant part of this growing burden. Since many uro-oncological cancers develop silently and present at advanced stages, early evaluation and timely specialist care are crucial to improve survival, preserve organ function, and achieve better long-term outcomes.

Why Awareness and Early Evaluation Matter

Uro-oncological cancers contribute significantly to India’s annual burden of 14–15 lakh new cancer cases, with prostate cancer now ranking among the top three cancers in Indian men. A major concern is that a large proportion of patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, which directly affects survival outcomes. However, when detected early, the prognosis improves dramatically.
